Gov. Christie’s Budget Address

Governor Chris Christie has delivered has annual budget address on Tuesday, February 24th. In the budget summary housing assistance is addressed beginning on page 20. Despite rising housing costs, the housing budget is being level funded with no dollars for housing production or foreclosure. Please note the following:

  • $2 million will be dedicated to provide housing vouchers to approximately 200 individuals receiving support services through the Division of Developmental Disabilities which is new funding. 
  • The budget maintains the $17.1 million of combined State and Federal funding for the Division of Family Development's Social Services for the Homeless Program, which provides assistance to New Jersey residents at risk of homelessness but are ineligible for WorkFirst New Jersey or Supplemental Security Income benefits.
  • $42 million in combined State and dedicated funding for the State Rental Assistance Program will continue.
  • $9 million in combine State and dedicated fund for homelessness prevention and emergency shelters also continue.
