NJ Court Blocks Raid on Housing Trust Funds

Posted April 9th, 2015

On April 9th, the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court blocked the Christie Administration’s efforts to take housing trust funds. Since 2012 Governor Christie has tried to take more than $160 million from the funds, which were raised from fees municipalities collected from developers. The three-judge appellate panel will now decide on a case-by-case basis how the money should be used in towns across the state. Towns are required to file in court by July 8,2015 as to how they plan to meet their affordable housing obligations.

The decision takes effect immediately and can be read by clicking here.
